The Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Great Falls area Representative Ed Buttrey as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Montana Hospital Association. Though it was claimed that a national search was held for the position, it is worth noting that Buttrey led efforts to keep MEDICAID expansion in place and advance other health care bills during the 2025 legislative session. The MEDICAID expansion program brings significant funding to Montana’s major hospitals.

All Montanans should ask, “Was this a quid pro quo?”

With Buttrey’s appointment as President and CEO, it seems unlikely he would try to run for the Montana Senate in 2026 and create a significant conflict of interest. The Sentinel staff will notify our readers if he files to run for office again.
