Why don't Republicans vote like Republicans?
During the ongoing saga of the Montana Senate fight for committee assignments, rules, and political power, Senator Barry Usher made it clear in a recent post on X that the "nasty 9 trans-partisan" Republicans must be held accountable and answer to their constituents as they vote with Democrats.
The power struggle is led on one side by Senator Jason Ellsworth, who thinks he needs to be President of the Senate rather than Senator Matt Regier, who won the vote for the position. Sources tell us that the real struggle is over the ability to pass Medicaid expansion and limit judicial reform measures. By achieving these two priorities, the abortion industry would keep profiting from Medicaid funds, and so would schools hiring therapists who spend an inordinate amount of time teaching children they can choose their gender. On the judicial reform side, this would limit the ability of the Senate to enact necessary measures to correct the corrupt ship of the Montana Supreme Court and other aspects of Montana's judicial system.
Again, today's 1 p.m. floor session ended abruptly with no useful actions taken. They convened again at 6 p.m. to reconsider Senate Resolution 1 (SR 1) to establish the Senate's rules. Until the rules are adopted, no legislation can go through the Senate. In our previous article, we highlighted how these 9 Republicans voted with the Democrats to attempt to give the Democrats and liberal Republicans more power and bypass the will of the voters who elected them to uphold the Montana Constitution and the Republican Party platform.
Instead, today, the same 9 Republicans continued to reject the voters and failed to adopt the rules the majority party crafted. Below is tonight's vote board that show the same 9 Republicans' names.
Following the failure to pass the rules, Senator Flowers then made a motion to indefinitely postpone the rules vote with the same 9 Republicans voting with the Democrats once again.
Montana's legislature will move into its fifth day with its only accomplishment being to get sworn in and spend taxpayer dollars accomplishing nothing because 9 Republicans are failing their voters.
If you've never seen what a legislative insurrection looks like, now you have.
