Activist Judge McMahon enjoined the private organization, the Montana Republican Party, after former republicans filed a lawsuit. The lawsuit stems from the Montana Republican Party’s new bylaws, which make it clear that members should act and vote like Republicans, not Democrats.

The lawsuit was brought by the Yellowstone County Republican Central Committee (without a vote of the committee), Chouteau County Republican Central Committee, Jeff Essman – husband of former republican Sherry Essman, Ted Kronebusch of Pondera County (likely due to pressure from Llew Jones), James Wilson, and Representative and former republican Brad Barker of Red Lodge (who is also a known ally of Llew Jones).

The lawsuit stands little chance of succeeding, as the Montana Republican Party is a private organization whose bylaws are subject solely to its members’ vote.
