The Republican Party, Unfortunately, Has Them

They speak of “working together,” “finding common ground,” and “being pragmatic.” They sincerely believe they’re saving the party from itself.

History has another name for people who unknowingly advance someone else’s agenda:

Useful idiots.

The phrase describes people who, often with good intentions, become instruments for objectives they neither recognize nor fully understand. They aren’t necessarily dishonest (although many are) —they simply lack the discernment to see where their actions ultimately lead.

Scripture repeatedly warns about spiritual blindness: the inability to distinguish truth from error or the gradual replacement of conviction with convenience. Once compromise becomes a habit, principles become negotiable.

Many Montana Republicans believe they’ve watched exactly that happen.

Candidates campaign as constitutional conservatives, proudly display an “R” after their names, and promise to uphold the Republican Platform. Then, once elected, even in local central committees, some repeatedly side with Democrats, weaken conservative priorities, and defend it all as “pragmatism.”
Here’s the irony: those who believe they’re rescuing the Republican Party from its conservative base may instead be advancing the very agenda they promised to resist.

If your Democrat political opponents consistently applaud your votes, it’s worth asking a simple question:

Who is really benefiting from your compromise?

Montana conservatives aren’t demanding perfection. They expect consistency. If you campaign as a conservative, govern as one. If the Republican Platform earns your vote during the convention, it shouldn’t become optional after that.

Good intentions never replace discernment. In politics, the most useful idiots are often the last to realize they’re carrying someone else’s water.
