The state of American politics has reached a breaking point. The people of this country think their government is corrupt, compromised, and that it no longer cares about the good of the nation.
In fact, we take it for granted that the absolutely worst among us are the ones who will seek office; men who are greedy, who are weak, and who are constantly looking around the room to find an “important” person to talk to.
It’s unfortunate, because our Republic was designed to elect Statesmen… but we’ve fallen into such disarray that we’ve settled for Politicians, men who crawl over each other to grasp at whatever power they can.
It’s no wonder we, as a people, are plagued with apathy towards the election process — our votes just don’t seem to matter and most have stopped hoping anything good will be brought about at the ballot box.
But sometimes, something unusual occurs. Sometimes one of us dares to step into the arena. Occasionally a soldier enters the fray who is fighting, not for himself, but for the people who sent him.
This election season in Montana, we have such a man willing to throw his name in the hat and trust that regular people, the forgotten elements of this great state, will respond.
Tom Jandron, who is running for US Senate in Montana as a Libertarian, is such a man. He has proved by how he lives his life that he understands loyalty, integrity, and has the humility to serve others. He is a faithful husband and father, has served his country well in the military, and is a self-taught scholar who knows how to work with his hands. Tom doesn’t seem to be the center of the room, but he is often the one person in the room who understands why our money is almost worthless, why our foreign policy is inept, and how we can build a better future for our children. Being in the spotlight is painful to him, but he’s doing it because our nation needs men like him — true Statesmen.
The man he is facing on the Libertarian primary ballot June 2nd is Kyle Austin. Mr. Austin has run for office before as a Republican and seems to have a vast amount of financial resources to throw at marketing himself (something incredibly unusual in a third-party candidate.) His political philosophies are so far removed from the Libertarian Party platform, that the Montana Libertarian Party has respectfully called on him to withdraw his name from the race… Something Mr. Austin has refused to do. He must want this position on the ballot pretty badly.
And so, in a rare moment for Montana, there will be a Libertarian primary on June 2. On one hand we have Tom Jandron, a man representing the Party of Principle and a possible change that is long overdue in politics. Facing him is Kyle Austin, who represents business-as-usual and oil to keep the political status-quo fueled.
I urge all my fellow Montanans, whether they plan on voting Democratic, Republican, etc in the general election, to pick up the Libertarian ballot on June 2, and vote for Tom Jandron for US Senate, who I heartily endorse.
