The independent research of Michael Hanson‘s death in 2024 concerns me. A Cascade County detective, without a warrant, shot a citizen to death because an acquaintance of the victim had purchased a bag of cat litter and cat food at Walmart. In October 2025 the Cascade Effect Video Series was promoted to be shown at the Great Falls high school. It sounded like an interesting presentation and I planned to go. When I attended the next weekly Pachyderm meeting, Jesse Slaughter, Cascade County Sheriff, made an announcement that no one should attend that showing at Great Falls high school. He stated he had a detective to protect and insinuated it would not be good for us If we attended. The first amendment of The Constitution states my right that I can attend any peaceful gathering that I choose to attend. As a ?? “Constitutional Sheriff” I felt that he was breaching our first amendment rights.

I attended the showing of the Cascade effect at the Great Falls high school. As I parked, there was a city police cruiser in the lot and a county sheriff vehicle in the nearby area. I believe they monitored all the cars who attended.

I complained to the Montana Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Department about my constitutional rights being infringed upon by Sheriff Slaughter’s warning not to attend that presentation.

Sheriff Slaughter questioned me at the Great Falls National Rifle Association banquet held in April 2026. He stated my “ Complaint was not valid. He stated, “I should have dialogued with him. The people who did the Cascade Affect are liars! They are law enforcement haters! You should not listen to them.”

The actual response I received from Montana Police Officer Standards Training was, “ We do not investigate this type of complaint. It is not within our purview.” When I asked who investigates this, they said they did not know. So I guess no one investigates sheriff overreach in Montana. Jesse Slaughter also heads the POST department.

During Campaign season sheriff Slaughter and George Nikolakakos are now stating that all the people who compiled the Cascade affect are liars and law-enforcement haters. Investigators have repeatedly asked to speak with Jesse Slaughter. He has repeatedly refused. Jesse Slaughter has also declined the invitations to debate Mindy Kahle who is opposing him for Sheriff. She has a 30 year history of law-enforcement with no record of suits against her performance or performance that she has supervised. Jesse Slaughter supervised many areas with suits that have cost taxpayers millions of dollars. Mindy Kahle’s unblemished performance record and many years as a Montana resident far outweigh Jesse’s claim that Law Enforcement in Nevada and California invalidate her candidacy. Vote for candidates that have truly shown their competency, dedication to the people they serve and the promise to follow the laws and represent the people. Jesse’s jail lawsuits increased the tax dollars you pay.
