Some People Just Don’t Know When To Quit

Apparently, the uniparty wing of Ravalli County Republicans—Bedey, Binkley, and Rusk—decided that the best way to protect election integrity was to let anyone vote first and ask questions about citizenship later. Enter HB-402, a legislative masterpiece that boldly declares: “REQUIRING THAT A PERSON WHOSE CITIZENSHIP STATUS IS NOT YET VERIFIED BE ALLOWED TO VOTE.” Because why bother with verification when you can just let the ballots fly and sort out the pesky legalities sometime after lunch?
What is incredible they didn’t just vote for it, they promoted it! Bedey and Rusk sponsored it and later Binkley voted for it! They are the ones that dreamed up this madness!
These three defenders of your rights (in theory, not practice) proudly voted “yes,” and promoted this insanity, proving once again that the so-called “Solutions Caucus” is less about solving problems and more about surrendering common sense. Frankly, “Surrender Caucus” feels less like a political label and more like a public service announcement: “Warning—these representatives have abandoned the defense of your rights.”
Had HB-402 actually been about securing elections, it would have required proof of citizenship before someone registers to vote. You know, kind of like showing your ID before you’re handed the keys to a school bus full of kids. But no, under this genius plan, the election administrator moonlights as a trust-fall coach: “Go ahead, check the box, sign your name—we’ll just believe you. Pinky promise?”
The Constitution—the actual Supreme Law of the Land, for anyone who still reads civics books instead of political press releases—makes it clear: only citizens can vote. That’s not a vibe. It’s not a suggestion. It’s law. Yet somehow, we’ve wandered into legislative Wonderland where verifying citizenship after voting is supposed to make sense. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.
And now, the Ravalli County threesome—Bedey, Binkley, and Rusk—are already gearing up for 2026, hoping voters have the memory span of a goldfish. But HB-402 isn’t going anywhere. We will not let people forget that in 2023, they voted to leave the backdoor of our elections wide open and hoped no one noticed while the foundation of the Republic got eaten away by termites with clipboards.
Bedey’s excuse? “Well, fighting HB-402 wouldn’t have held up in court… we’d have to battle the ACLU.” Newsflash, Bedey: similar bills have survived legal challenges in other states just fine. But sure, waving the white flag is easier than fighting for the Constitution, isn’t it? One thing’s for certain: HB-402 is now duct-taped to their political careers. Every time they show up on a ballot, this vote will be the bumper sticker they can’t peel off. The “Surrender Caucus” isn’t just alive and well—it’s already campaigning for a repeat performance in 2026. Let’s not give them an encore.
