There Is A Movement To Take Your Water & Control You!

There is a growing movement to put meters on private wells in Montana, wrapped in the usual bureaucratic gift box labeled “Don’t worry, it’s only for data.” Apparently, we are supposed to believe that government never collects information without eventually finding a creative way to regulate, tax, or control whatever it is measuring.

We’ve seen this movie before. Fear and misinformation are among government’s favorite tools. Remember COVID? First came the “temporary” measures, then the mandates, restrictions, and endless assurances that this is absolutely not about control.

Our land is our legacy, and our water is our lifeblood. For generations, Montanans have drilled wells, raised families, grown gardens, and lived independently under the protection of private-property rights. Now that independence is being challenged by bureaucrats, activist organizations, and urban interests demanding that private wells be monitored.

Don’t be fooled by the innocent-sounding sales pitch.

First comes the meter. “It’s just data.”
Then comes the regulation. “It’s just conservation.”
Then comes the fee. “It’s only a small charge.”
Then comes the restriction. “It’s necessary because of the drought.”

And eventually, somebody in an office 200 miles away decides how much water you are allowed to use on the property you own.
That is how government expansion usually works—not with a jackhammer, but with a tiny little bureaucratic tap, turned one notch at a time.

Montana’s laws have historically recognized and protected domestic wells precisely because rural citizens should not need a government permission slip, a meter, and a bureaucratic scavenger hunt simply to use water on their own property.

If government can monitor your private well, regulate how much you pump, charge you for it, and ultimately restrict your access to it, then the word “private” starts becoming rather decorative.

And where does this philosophy end?

We already have government deeply involved in education, medicine, food, energy and transportation. Now water.

What’s next—a government-issued meter on the air you breathe?
“Sorry, sir. You’ve exceeded your monthly oxygen allocation. Please submit Form 47-B and await approval.”

Montana needs to draw a line—and make it a very visible one.
Our groundwater, our property, and our liberty should not become another playground for bureaucrats convinced that every problem can be solved by a regulation, a database, and somebody else’s signature.

Stand up. Speak out. Defend private-property rights.
Because once government controls the tap on your land, ownership becomes little more than a lease with better landscaping.

And Montana, never was and should never be that kind of place!
