Representative John Fitzpatrick of Helena is spreading lies about his House District 76 opponent, Trish Schreiber.

John Fitzpatrick has had a lot to say about me the past few weeks, and as a typical lobbyist and career politician, he attacks me with one lie after another. Why? To hide from his own true record.

First, let’s set the record straight: I decided to run for HD 76 because I believe the people deserve to have local representation that shows up, listens, and serves them. That’s what will guide me every step of the way. That’s what I’m committing to each constituent, and I’ve already hit the ground running. As for where I stand on the critical issues, I believe in a limited government, cutting wasteful spending, and prioritizing government spending. I believe the best form of government is at the local level. I believe when there’s a budget surplus in Helena, the surplus dollars should go back to the taxpayers. I believe in property tax reform that lowers taxes for all Montanans, regardless of how private property is used.

Fitzpatrick attacks Republican principles yet runs as one to hide who he really is.  He thinks the people are not paying attention to his Democrat-aligned votes or to what he says in public meetings.  So, he must think you don’t know or won’t hear about what he said a few weeks ago in front of the Powell County Commissioners, advocating for a sales tax, what he called the needed “third leg of the stool” to accumulate state revenue.  I call it the third hand in our pockets.

Even worse, Fitzpatrick assumes the people don’t know that he got up on the House Floor on February 25th to discuss raising property taxes and said clearly that the state can’t let Republican voters have access to their own money, because they will blow it all on bullets and McDonalds. Everyone one of us should be insulted by this. I believe each of us knows how to spend our hard-earned money better than the government does. It’s clear that Fitzpatrick does not understand rural Montana values, likely because he’s a life-long Helena insider who doesn’t even live in our district, except when he’s vacationing at his home on Georgetown Lake.

HD 76 deserves better, and I promise today and every day to protect our rural values.
