In April 2024, candidates for Helena’s School District in District 1 were caught disparaging parents during a school board candidate meeting with the Lewis and Clark County Democratic Central Committee. Parents who have concerns about the kinds of books their children read without their knowledge or consent were the subject of mockery and jokes led by Kevin Hamm, Secretary of the Lewis and Clark County Democratic Party. The room erupted in laughter as Hamm joked about using “some of those parents” to “prop up the boiler” in a local school. Candidates in attendance were Siobhan Hathhorn, now an elected board member.
