Here is a blast from our past - July 10, 1986 - confirming that Montanans have previously endured excessively high property taxes:

Building upon the tax details I provided to Sentinel readers last week, following are highlights from a Helena residential property during the 2015-2023 comparison period obtained from Lewis & Clark County Treasurer’s office:

    • Property tax bills increased by 117.74%
    • Market Value increased by 141.30%
    • Taxable Value increased by 141.30%
    • Mill Levies decreased by -5.43%
    • Tax Levies increased by 128.21%
    • The Federal Reserve shows that inflation increased 29%

Do you smell those frog legs boiling yet?  It is the incrementalism approach most often employed by government agencies when they do not want the public to quickly catch on to the scam.

‘We only need you to pay $120/year in additional property taxes to give you a shiny new municipal building with 15 new government employees’.  Does this sound familiar?

If it does, then please remember to vote against any and all new tax increases, mill levies, fees, assessments, and bonds.

And remember to make your voices heard by offering public comment at upcoming city and county commission meetings.

Declare that you support “No new taxes, mill levies, fees, assessments, and/or bonds!”

It is imperative that we send a resounding message to our government at all levels during 2024 that we no longer wish to remain in the boiling pot.

Editor Addition: This is another lie and will not improve education. Stay tuned as we dig into the the salaries of Superintendents and those who truly benefit from raising your taxes. Hint - it's not the students nor the teachers.
