This year's elections are almost in the books, and there weren't any "mostly peaceful riots" in the country leading up to November 5th this time. Here's a summary of the key results in Montana.

  1. Donald Trump won easily, by twenty points
  2. Tim Sheehy unseated eighteen year incumbent Jon Tester, winning by eight points
  3. Ryan Zinke and Troy Downing won their Congressional seats by seven and thirty-two points respectively
  4. The following remained in Republican hands
    • Governor Gianforte and Lieutenant Governor Juras(Twenty-One Points)
    • Attorney General Knudsen (Twenty-Points)
    • Secretary of State Jacobsen (Twenty-Six Points)
    • State Auditor Brown (Twenty-Three Points)
    • Superintendent of Public Instruction Hedalen (Eighteen Points)
    • Clerk of the Supreme Court Greenwood (Eighteen Points)
  5. All three Public Service Commissioner positions up for election remained GOP. (Molnar, Welborn, Fielder)
  6. Cory Swanson won for Supreme Court Chief Justice
  7. Katherine Bidegaray won Supreme Court Justice position #3. Of note she's a backer of ANITFA and Black Lives Matter, along with similar groups
  8. The state legislature remained in GOP hands despite former Governor Bullock appointing a longtime Democrat donor as the chair of the "independent" redistricting commission, blatantly gerrymandering the districts, and leaning on corrupt courts to uphold their work
    • Montana Senate. 32 Republicans and 18 Democrats
    • Montana House. 59 Republicans and 41 Democrats
  9. Three Constitutional Initiatives were on the ballot. (CI-126/127 both were types of Ranked Choice Vote schemes)
    • CI-126 - failed by almost 16,000 votes
    • CI-127 - failed by approximately 119,000 votes
    • CI-128 - passed by approximately 89,000 votes. This is the abortion all the time with no restrictions and no oversight initiative
  10. As of the time of this publication, 597,525 votes were cast of 802,206 registered voters

Numerous local races are not accounted for in this summary.

There are pending challenges to some legislative races as well.
