Politics has never changed its essence and nature throughout history. Kingmakers and power brokers work hard to put their people into office or on a throne to ensure those who receive favorable treatment will benefit their donors. This is true of America’s major political parties today, even in Montana.
Sources have informed The Montana Sentinel that there are games afoot in the move to disbar Attorney General Knudsen, and the players are not only the leftist Democrats on the Montana Supreme Court, but they are willing Republicans as well.
Unsurprisingly, this is a dirty tactic to remove Knudsen’s license to practice law and thus his ability to serve as Montana’s elected Attorney General. What will be surprising to many is who else appears to be involved from the sidelines and seeking to gain power or “build their kingdoms.” Because this is also about the Governor’s office.
Here is the scenario our sources provided, given their access to backroom discussions:
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) will probably submit its recommendation to the Montana Supreme Court in the first week of November (election week). This is a pro forma action since the Counsel’s recommendation was prepared months ago, and they will recommend disbarment. Regardless of the ultimate timing, they want him gone.
The Montana Supreme Court will likely follow the Counsel’s recommendation, with Mike McGrath leading the way since he is the most radical leftist on the Court and is retiring, so he will look to leave a legacy of heavy partisanship and destruction in his wake.
The remainder of the Montana Supreme Court could be a wild card because they know this will ignite a firestorm in the legislature, which oversees the Supreme Court as a part of its constitutional function.
The war between the Legislature and the Judicial branches will move from COLD to HOT immediately, and the legislature could remove the Supreme Court’s funding. Republicans of all stripes have already indicated their willingness to do so.
If this happens, the Governor could veto the bill to remove the funding, which some would view as wisely leaving the courts intact, checking the legislature’s move for accountability in the courts, and removing Attorney General Knudsen early as a contender for Governor in the 2028 election cycle. This would allow Gianforte and Daines to push someone else for Governor whom they prefer.
This could work because it could take eighteen months or longer to clear Knudsen of the weaponized charges. This would allow the Governor to replace Knudsen with someone more aligned with himself, and Knudsen would mostly disappear from Montana’s political scene as a result. The person to replace Knudsen, if necessary, has already been identified. Though it could change, there is a 99% chance it is the person the Sentinel knows.
This means that kingmakers still seek to build a bastion of like-minded people around them and provide the voters with their pre-selected candidates for office rather than risk the “free electrons” coming out who only want to serve the people and won’t tap dance for power and influence.
This scenario could be wrong in whole or in part. However, the essential elements are all in place and have already been discussed by many of the names involved in the backroom discussions.
